Not only are users entertained, but there is no onus on them to create content like on other social platforms. Most often compared to TikTok due to its design, users can thumb through for a quick laugh on their Netflix app home screen while waiting in line at the grocery store or car wash. I liken it to the opposite of doom-scrolling, since most of the content is funny and light. Now Netflix is taking content socializing a step further, once again separating itself from its peers with Fast Laughs.Ĭurrently available on iPhone devices in select countries, Netflix’s Fast Laughs is a vertical scroll video feed comprised of 15-45 second comedy bytes from the Netflix content library. Through Netflix Party, Netflix essentially “socialized” its content, and it watched as many companies followed suit to remain competitive. While this technology for the shared experience was not new, its pairing with a content library the size of Netflix’s was a fresh take. Hosting a watch party with friends is a fairly regular occurrence that has become almost commonplace during the quarantine. Now, these apps are omnipresent across streaming platforms. Within months, copycats like the Hulu Watch Party and Prime Watch Party cropped up in the marketplace. With the invention of Netflix Party (now formally known as Teleparty), video streamers stuck at home alone could socialize with friends while watching shows and movies on Netflix. Despite all the trouble that 2020 brought with it, it did bring some positives to the world as well.
